What are you waiting for?

You know, ever since the first man picked up a rock and found that it made a really good weapon, humans have always seemed to advance in weapons before anything else. I mean, mankind has all kinds of brilliant ideas, like the land mind that you step on and it pops up and blows your head off. (bouncing betty) The FAE bomb, a wonderful device which is basically a huge propane tank that is dropped out the back of a cargo plane, and it it is set to vent all 10000 gallons of propane at a specific point above ground. Then a little bomb goes off and.... Everything for a 3 mile radius is flattened, or reduced to red smears in the dust. Who needs nukes now, a few dozen of these things, and you basically clear the town of the enemy AND get it ready for reconstruction. Great doctors eradicated small pox, BUT we kept some samples of the virus 'just in case." Just in case of what? Or, lets look at interpersonal relationships. Okay, woman meets man who seems nice, man turns out to be an abusive SOB, woman wont leave said male. Police called to stop big fight, cop wrestles man to ground, woman shoots cop. Or automobiles Gas is over 3 bucks a gallon, and what are people still buying? SUV's that suck gas like crazy. Another thing about cars, some of these car companies have made cars that will go over two hundred miles an hour.... Where in the United States could you even think about driving that fast? Humans are remarkable creatures with really bad priorities. We should think of the hungry, or the hurting, or the lonely... Not how can we more efficiently kill someone. Gee the army taught me to do that, quite well actually. I have just reached a point in my life where it is obvious that unless we as a race change, humans are not long for this world, or the universe.

eternal patrol

The phrase 'Eternal Patrol' means nothing to a vast majority of people, but to some of us, who have lived and worked on the sea, or belong to the order of the Dolphin, that phrase carries a great deal of meaning.

There is one group of military personel who cannot be confirmed as KIA, they can only be listed as MIA. Thier bodies can never be recovered, if they can even be found, and that phrase deals with these men.

These are the men who served on ships with names like Wahoo, Growler, Shark, Perch, Pickerel, Pampano, Sculpin, Sealion, Swordfish, Triton, Trout, Grampus, Grayback, Grayling, Grenadier, Gudgeon, and a dozen or so others.

These boats lie with their crews on the bottem of the Pacific, lost during a war sixty years ago. Thier last minutes were spent disperately trying to reach the surface, knowing it was impossible.

Well, one of these boats was found last year, and although we now know were the USS Wahoo lies, she and her crew, like the others, remain forever on patrol.

These were joined after the war by the Thresher and Seawolf.

We, who have lived and worked on the sea remember all those who have died at sea, and those men who wear the dolphins remember them, every day.

We look out on the ocean, that cruel mistress and remember, those who died in peace and war, and who the sea claimed as her own. We remember, because many people do not.

We remember because we know the sea has claimed men from the day that man decided he could sail across her, beyond the horizon, to distant lands.

These men did not die at the hands of the sea, however, they died at the hands of a hostile enemy, for them, the sea took them into her arms to hold them safe, until the day that the She will give up her dead.

I dont know why I have such a feeling for these men, perhaps it is becuase I have made a living on the ocean, perhaps in a past life I was one of them. I do not know, but I will openly admit that last October, when it was confirmed the USS Wahoo had been found, I wept, for while they remain on patrol, today we know where they are, and we can put a memorial next to her hull.prayer.jpg

Example of INsanity...

yesterday, I decided that since my sister wanted my mother's carved desk, (mom passed away in feb) I needed to move said desk out of my bedroom, and naturally replace the desk with a new one, and bookshelves. Not normally a major undertaking.... However, I am disabled, I have degenerative disk and bone disease in my lumbar spine. It is a quite interesting ailment.... two, sometimes as many as 5 times a day, I get this shocking pain in my lower spine, I jerk like I have been struck by a jolt of electricity, and my brain suddenly forgets that I have two legs, such as they are, and I do a face plant into the ground, floor, or what ever is handy, even WHEN I have my cane. And the social security judge denied my claim of disability at my last hearing, even with two specialists and a physical therapists statements on witnessing such episodes, and an ER report. So, with that in mind, I decided I could move a solid teak and mahogonny desk to the living room... CAN WE SAY STOOOPID? or is it just a male thing? I mean just because the last 3 nuerosurgeons I have seen have all said "I have no idea how you are walking...." and the state of texas refuses to give me a drivers license unless my vehicle is equipped with hand controls.... BUT.. the desk is moved, my new desk is in place along with a bookshelf, I have not slept a wink all night because of muscle spasms and considerable pain.... You know, if you had a horse or dog in the same condition I am in, you would put em down.... out of compassion.... Oh well... so much for the events of yesterday. Today, if I can manage it, I do believe I will see if I can do something else equally logical in that John Wayne code of behavior for american males.... Or I may just sit in my chair and stare at the ceiling wondering how a person with a master's degree could be so stupid.....

Major problems with....

1) women who do not smile 2) women who do not take compliments 3) Assholes that beat women.
