Act 2 Changes (5th) Act 2 scene I.... Jailhouse boredom [scene opens with a view from a metal screened in window overlooking spaghetti junction] Zeda: The traffic today is typical of Atlanta. There is a 5 car pileup east of I20, 285 is bumper to bumper, and someone has thrown a mannequin off of the upper level of spaghetti junction causing massive carnage, eight people dead so far and the count is still on... back to you Toucher....... (Zeda turns from the window holding her hand as if she has a microphone in it.) Mental Act I cont Okay, so all of my directer camera instructions were deleted from previous scenes because i used the < thingies. so camera instructions will be in [] Act I scene VI..."Therapy" *this scene will be a copulation of hard cuts switching between 3 therapy secessions 1) With a clinical assessor Dr.Monroe 2) With Psychiatrist Dr.Kerns and 3) With therapist Teresa Monroe's interview takes place an office with a white table and a few chairs. Everything is white, it is almost as if it is in a hospital. Dr.Kerns Is a heavy set white man with a white beard and salt and pepper hair Kern's interview takes place in the "level zero room" an area with dim lighting, tan chairs and wooden tables Kerns is a short slender white woman with poofy short hair Teresa's interview takes place in a cozy office with african art and a huge brown couch . Teresa is a red skinned african american with dreds, she looks an awful lot like Zeda's mother who will be introduced later formally Monroe: (placing four blocks on a table and shaping them into a pattern) Now what i want you to do is to use your blocks to recreate the pattern i just made [hard cut] Kerns: It says here that you were placed on Depakote at Peachtree hospital? We are going to monitor your levels every month to make sure you are keeping up with the medication Zeda: Yes mam [hard cut] Teresa: every month there will be a meeting of myself, Dr.Kerns, and some of the staff to asses how you are progressing in your treatment. your progress will be measured from 1-4, you cannot move up in a level until you have achieved an equivalent scoring overall on your treatment plan. Act 1 scene VIII... bad company Back in the level zero room. Same kids as last time. It is Monday, levels day. there is tension in the room. Adam and Zeda are playing spades with faith and joey. The other kids are doing random things from casual talk to playing jenga etc... Mrs.Amy is sitting at the door reading a magazine Adam: So what do you have Zeda: I can make 6 Adam: Okay i say we go 8 (faith writes down 8 in the "them" column of the scoreboard) *few seconds of game play* Joey: So who went up for 1? Zeda: I did. Faith: You'll get it? I mean you've been doing pretty good Adam: Yea you haven’t Killed amy yet Zeda: Yea whats with her? Act 1 scene VII(?)... Psycho ed In the level zero room are Adam, Parker (chubby white girl dark hair), Faith, Samuel (muscular 16 year old white boy ash blonde hair), Zeda, and Mary (white girl dark hair pug face and pot belly..every other part of her body is relatively thin) Mrs: Madeline: (looks up from her chart to examine her watch) Okay zero's, its time for group. I need all those going to 12 step to form one line and for pyscoEds to get in line behind them. Adam: ouch (the line leaves the Zero room which is on the male hallway directly in front of the Behavior control rooms, as they reach the intersection, everyone but Zeda, Parker, and Mary leave for the cafeteria (to the left) while the remaining 3 zero's veer to the computer room to the right *on the girls hall*) as they walk by, they find yet another new girl standing next to the staff desk which separates the two halls. The girl is a tall, slightly over weight *think maryln monroe* white girl with an almond shaped face, wide legged pants and a shirt with a picture of maryln manson. her name.. You all know the drill. I am going to pass out the 12 pillars, 12 objectives, and 12 steps of the program, i want you all to read them out loud. And then we can begin with group. Mental Act I Scene V... first restraint the children walk into the breakfast room. at the level Zero table there is already a girl sitting there. A modelesque blonde Marie. With wavy hair and pouty lips.. (Zeda walks through the cafeteria line and takes her seat at the level zero table across and one seat down from the blonde) Zeda (whispering): Hi Marie: Hi, Zeda: The names zeda, whats yours? Marie: Marie Zeda: so what do you think about this place Marie: I dont know i just got here (Introduction of Mrs.Amy. A tall slender white lady with short brown hair) Mrs: Amy: (announces from the doorway) No talking at the level zero table (both girls look down and start eating) Marie: That boy keeps staring at me Zeda: Who Marie: the one that looks like a deranged hillbilly Zeda: (looks over her shoulder) oh Garrett, yea the girls told me he is retarded or something (Both girls giggle) Mrs.Amy: Zeta, i said no talkin, TIME OUT Zeda: What? Stephen pull Zeda out of the chair she tries to fight them off her, when this begins she is 'Taken down" with the male staff members holding her arms and Mrs.April holding her legs) Zeda: Get the fuck off me, get the fuck off me (The staff members lift zeda up by her limbs and carry her to the Behavior control room *an 8X8 room with , concrete brick walls and steel door with a large convex window made of plexyglass* aas she steadily struggles screaming obscenities at them. Once in the BCR the staff carry her to the back corner set her down and run out. she chases them to the door where she is pushed back in and the door is shut and locked) Zeda: let me out of here!!! Let me the fuck out (she screams as she bangs on the plexy glass after a few seconds she walks to the back corner stares at the walls graffittied *carvings in the paint and doors* with pentagrams, NIN and other assorted relics of 90s teenage angst,) (Zeda lays her head in her knees and begins to cry) (Zeda is sitting in a chair facing the wall outside the behavior control rooms, she looks over and Mrs.April shakes her head disapprovingly) Mrs: April: So you're going to be out of here in 6 months? Mental Act I Scene IV...the nightmare (a recreation of the dark alley in the opening scene of a nightmare on elm street I Zeda is walking through the alley) Zeda: Hello?..... Hello? (exactly like NOES, ) (Zeda looks behind her and sees freddy kruger and starts to run. he chases her into a house where an african american woman and a biracial little girl are sitting to lunch in front of the tv where WWF is being viewed) Zeda: Mom MOM help me he is going to kill me (they ignore her, zeda moves in front of the TV and starts screaming) Zeda: (Screaming) MOM MOM PLEASE HELP ME (freddy looks on from the doorway) (Zeda's Voice now muted attempts to scream for her mothers help freddy comes up behind her and grabs her neck) Freddy: They cant hear you, You dont exist (Zeda again Mouths the word MOM as freddy stabbs her in the stomach) (Zeda is breathing heavily when she notices, her sheats are wet... she has wet the bed) Zeda: Oh fuck (Zeda looks around to make sure her roommates are still asleep, takes off her pajama bottoms and strips the sheets off her bed and carries them outside to the hall where the night staff are sleeping) Zeda: Excuse me (To a short African American woman with glasses) I dont want you to think the wrong thing, this usually never happens, it must be the strange bed or something Night staff I: You wet the bed? Act I scene 3... Welcome group A group of twenty kids sit in a circle With 2 male and 2 female staff members all in their early to mid twenties. the kids talk amongst themselves. This scen will focus on the introduction of secondary and main charactors. Male staff 1 (Mr. Steve a): Okay everybody, this is introduction group. You know how this works. State your name, something about yourself and one rule you would like to share about crossroads. And ZEETA you as our newest resident you can go first Zeda: (dressed in faded jeans and a blue courderoy long sleve shirt her short hair damp and frizzing from the shower) My name is ZETA, i'm 14. and i dont know any rules Sarah ( a petit caucasian female with long blonde hair large brest makign her small frame look equally large): Hi I am Sarah, I am 15 and everything said in group is confedential Amanda (a slim italian looking femal with long black hair) My name is amanda, I'm 15 and aparently liking somebody will get you put on association restriction (everyone laughs) Kevin (A short caucasian male with black hair) my name is kevin i am 15 and ther is no talking in timeout Daniel: (a slinder caucasian male with a long face) I am daniel, i am 16 and there is no passing notes.. Kevin: Shit, i goto go. , the girls are walking down to their hall passing the male hall. Camera again from zeda's viewpoint focuses down male hall to find a Jewish boy laying on the cot talking to a male staff member. The staff member is writing in a log and zeda notices that his black leather boots have zippers on the side. Zeda (whispering to Amanda): Who's that? Amanda (whispering back): Thats Adam Zeda: why wasn’t he in group? Amanda: He just got back from YDC for throwing salad on Mrs. Amy, he is like on association restriction from everyone Zeda: Why did he go to jail for... wait why did he throw a salad at her Amanda: You'll find out (Zeda Stops walking)

Act 1 Scene II.. The rules A six foot tall muscular african american woman (Ms.April) leads Zeda through the campus tour... Ms.April: Wake up is at 7am, You are to get dressed, Make your bed and be ready for head count by 7:15. 7:30 to 8 is Breakfast. You are a level Zero. That means you are not allowed to speak to or sit with the other residents. This is the time you are to observe the other residents and see exactly who you should associate with. Ms.April slides a white card through a slot next to the door and pushes the doors open Mrs.April: School is on campus, these are your classrooms. The kids are separated, just like in normal school, you will take all your classes with kids in your grade. This room is english, this is science, and this one is math. Ms.April slides a white card through a slot next to the door and pushes the doors again open Mrs.April: (Announces loudly)Ladies on the Hall!!!! There are a lot of good kids here, and a lot of not so good kids here. who you associate with will determine whether you are here for a year or two years Zeda: I will be out in 6 months Mrs.April: No you wont. Team group is every evening at 6pm. Except Wednesdays when you will attend psychoED Zeda: I am not psycho Mrs April: those not attending PsychoEd will be in 12 step. Saturday mornings you will have gender group, and Friday is the token store. (Pointing to a small room full of candy T shirts and stuffed animals Zeda: Whats a token Mrs April: Tokens are points earned for good behavior. They can also be taken away for not so good. For any disruptive behavior you will be placed in timeout for fifteen minutes. Two time outs in one day results in a level drop. We have three levels here. 1, 2, and 3. Zeda: but you said i was a level zero Mrs.April: Correct, you have no level because you are being observed as well as observing. In seventy two hours you will be placed on level one. From there you can apply to move up to the other levels. The higher the level the more the privileges. Mrs.April: you are allowed ten items of clothing, 5 shirts 5 jeans, no skirts halters or makeup of any kind. You are allowed 2 pairs of shoes and sleeping attire. YOU MAY NOT SLEEP NAKED understand. Zeda: yes mam... I don’t really have that many clothes anyw…. Mrs: April: Now i need you to step into the bathroom and remove your clothing to be searched Zeda: ( eyebrows raised) What?

Mental Act 1 Scene I... introduction Darkness, The camera faces the ceiling of a small room shifting in and out of focus (drunken appearance) Narration: So this is my life. 4 am staring at the ceiling of a room wrought with chaos. As i sit here, i think of all the things i dont have. Not material wise, but in my head. Hope, Aspiration, Certainty of a future of grandiose proportions. All my life i have had this feeling that i was something special. That i was meant to accomplish some grand feet to justify my existence. I guess Harvard forgot didnt receive that memo. So now i am forced to contemplate a life filled with monotony and the mundane and i just want to disappear..... Income Credits. The camera zooms about the Atlanta Skyline, focusing on typical scenery, (Cnn Center, The Fox, etc) as if it were searching..... Music: the 1920's pop version of the song "Last Kiss" (playing from the radio) The camera Zooms into the main character of the series. Zeda, a fourteen year old African African American Youth sitting contemptibly in the back seat of a 95 ford escort. In the front sits an older African American woman. Heavy set wearing glasses. The car pulls into a gated building with a rainbow-shaped bronze arch connecting its center. Its motto reads " Crossroads: Safe passage for teenagers in crisis" The case worker turns the radio down, rolls down the window and reaches out of the car window and presses a button, Out of the speaker box comes a muffled voice receptionist: "Crossroads" Caseworker(Mrs.Sims): Yes, I am here with a new intake a loud tone rings and the gates open pulling the rainbow apart. Camera angles above the car watching it pull into a handicapped parking spot. back inside the car View from the child the Mrs.Sims places her arm on the headrest of the passenger seat. looks back at the child Mrs.Sims: If you get kicked out of here, You're going to bootcamp Mrs: Sims opens the car door And struggles to get out. camera faces the two as they close the doors and walk towards a two flight concrete staircase lined on the side with red brick. camera view again from the child's perspective focusing on the overweight (240?) womans struggle to climb the stairs, she is visibly out of breath but not wheezing. when the two reach the top wide paned view of the red brick building with white pillars, a welcoming porch lined with bushes on either side lining the exterior of the building. the case worker presses the call button and the doors open {end scene}
