My supervisor is leaving his present position with our division and will be taking another position in a different division, so his position will be coming open. He told me that in his opinion, I would be a good candidate for his spot when he leaves, and I'm thinking about applying for it.
BUT
I have a friend who is a supervisor already in another area (Charlotte)and lives in our area (Greenville)that will be applying for the position as well, since he has been commuting out of the area and living in hotels while he is working. This position would have him doing basically the same job, but he would be able to live at home like a normal human being.
So . . .
Should I risk my friendship with Ivan by applying and competing with him for his dream job (ok, maybe not his DREAM job, but one he really wants)? Keep in mind, that if I don't get it, he will be my direct supervisor. Yay or nay?
