I rented this, because Jason Statham, in my wife's eyes, is one of the hottest men in the world. In fact, he's Jason Hotness in our house, for easy reference. And I like action/crime movies, so we both got what we want.
Wesley Snipes and Ryan Phillippe were also in the movie, and thats a plus for me also.
Wesley Snipes is one of my favorite actors. He usually overacts, which he does here, but he does it so well, and so often, you just expect it. He's in a bunch of my favorite movies, and he is in his better role, that of a bad guy.
Ryan Phillippe plays the rookie cop, Jason Statham's new partner, and is really good in the role. He's best known as Reece Witherspoon's ex hubby, but if you check out his movies, he's always solid. I like him because he doesn't jump on every role, and just does what he likes.
But for 3/4's of the movie, the story was great. Some action, some intrigue, decent dialog, and you thought you knew where it was going, then it would twist.
The ending was average. It had a nice twist in the end, and doesn't finish like you expect it, and I think if the movie had done better, you would have seen Chaos 2. Don't hold your breath.
But the ending seemed loose, and just thrown together. I'm going to have to watch it again, to make sure I got it all, and thats not a bad thing. But I think I got the total package, and the ending was thrown together.
The casting was good. Some of the roles were cliche. There was some overacting throughout it. And it bugs me when an English guy is a detective on an American police force. I just find that stretching some.
I'll rate this a 7 out of 10. I'm torn, because I'm rating it hard, because I loved Statham's similar movies in Snatch, and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, but soft, because I like Statham, but I do think that 7 is a very fair rating.
