Biskit's blog: "Fucking Cancer"

Well, life changed fast

Hi everyone,

I know most of you know I've been having some health issues lately, and I just wanted to fill you in on what was happening.

Late last year I had a routine colonoscopy, not my first, but my ten year check up.  Unfortunately they found colorectal cancer.  Since then it has been a roller coaster ride of tests and appointments at my local cancer center.  Recently, my case went to the tumor board at the hospital, and they believe it is in the first stage, which is great news.  Unfortunately, the best treatment at this point is big 6 hour surgery then a 5-6 day hospital stage.  It also involves a temporary bag while my colon heals for 2-3 months.  I will also be out of work for 3 months, which is messing with my mind some.  As long as it's first stage, this will be considered a cure.  If any is found in the multitude of lymph nodes they will be taking out, then I will have to have clean up chemo to make sure they have it all microscopically.  So please keep positive thoughts for no node involvement.

This was a big shock psychologically - I had no signs or symptoms and still feel fine now.  I know I won't be quite feeling as fine after my surgery on February 21st, but I'm tough and will get through this no matter what happens.

I wanted to especially say thank you to everyone that has reached out, especially those of you going through or have gone through the same drama.  That means a lot to me, and I appreciate everyone's care and concern.  Thank you to my friends that have been keeping in touch, since I haven't been here as much lately.

Most importantly - get a colonoscopy when you're due.  Things could have been a lot worse for me if I had waited, because I almost cancelled my appointment.  I have my best friend to thank, she bothered me into going because the same thing had happened to her husband, and he recently completed chemo.

Thanks for reading this, and I'll be around when I can.

Joanne  :)
