Life begins with music. At least it did for me. I began my musical journey in 5th grade, at Fulton Elementary school in Fulton Illinois, under the direction of one Mr. Jack Martinez. A clarinet player at the time, I drove my mom, step dad, and sister to the point of insanity I'm sure of it. Out of spite more than anything I played that fuckin' clarinet 7 days a week, for hours. And I was fuckin' good mind you, first chair, which at the time seemed like a big deal.Once I hit JR. High it was all over for me. Mr. M moved me to Contra Bass Clarinet, which was cool with me cause it was an odd instrument. And my taste to learn new instruments was fueled. I marched with the High School Marching Band by 7th grade, and by 8th was playing Baritone Sax in the state ensomble.I marched, played jazz, and traditional ensomble with that Bari Sax all the way through High School, State Ensombles, yes I still have the trophies on the mantle to prove it, State Competitions, and even used it to get myself a scholorship to college.Come about my sophomore year however, I discovered I could play drums. I feat I solely place on the shoulders of Mr. M. A percussionist in college, he was a great teacher, even from a far. I never had any formal training in percussion. I just watched as he worked with the percussionists, and later in High School the kit. I fell in love with drums, and have never looked back. College was a weird fucked up time for me. My school dropped my major meer days before the start of class so I ended up in a place I didn't like. Things at home turned sour so I returned to the city of 7 smells to "finish" my collegiant carreer. Between a couple semesters at then Mt. St. Clare college and Clinton Community College, I met the true love of my life Sandi. I recruited her for my then band 14 Cigarettes as a vocalist. We weren't very good, and only played one show. But in hindsite, that project set up everything for me. College became a sidebar to her, and we were married back on Halloween (New Year to those of you which it applies) of 2001. As most young couples do Sandi & I fell on hard times. I remember distinctly telling her I was going to sell my kit that I'd had for years. Just sitting around, being moved from apartment to apartment with no place to set up. They weren't being used, and my dream of being a rock star was over. All well and good, at least we got to play one show. We began our life as a newly wed couple, with no regrets, no looking back. Then a couple years later I was approached with an offer I couldn't refuse. A friend and karaoke DJ at the bar where Sandi was working asked me to play drums for his new project. While I explained I had given that up years ago he persisted. I made him a deal. Buy me a kit, and I'll play it for you. Oddly enough, the crazy bastard did. In mid summer of 2003 uHm had their first "rehersal" on a horrible kit, in a half finished bar, and boy did we suck, but we coudn't wait for the world to hear how badly. uHm progressed. Working out covers from old punk songs nobody really wanted to hear. Playing in pizza joints, local bars, wherever really would let us jam. We just wanted to play at that time. It was fun. The original line up was a blast with Loki, Lloyd, Stan, & Myself. Jamming out old Ramones, to Greenday, to Jimmy Eat World, back to Black Sabbath, to Nirvana, to Green Jelly. Needless to say we didn't get the respect we felt we so rightfully deserved. But we just jammed. Loki moved away pt. 1 and we brought in a new vocalist a very yound NapalmHavica. His first band, and a guitarist by trade, but he could sing, so fuck it he can jam with us. That's pretty much how it worked out. We'd jam once in a while. Do a show here and there. Not quite the beast it became, but we're getting to that. Just as things seemed they were getting better for uHm we lost Lloyd. The grandmaster organizer, the brain of uHm if you will. He had moved to Denver, and as far as we all knew uHm was dead. All for not, it was a great time, and boy would I have some stories for the kids right.... Lloyd & Loki moved back!!! uHm v. 2.0 begins. Now featuring Loki, NapalmHavica, Stan Haylon, Lloyd, and myself. We were back, and actually a bit determined this time. uHm began really working on some original material, put out a couple of demo CD's, played some great shows in our hometown, and all the way down to St. Louis. Around the same time I came back in touch with a dear old friend from high school, Trevor. He had been fronting his band Fabrication since 1999, and things seemed to be going great for them. However, it seemed their bassist was going to be moving away, and they needed a new one. Having never played bass before, I joined Fabrication as Kas's replacement. In the comming months Kas would decide to stay, and Darrell the drummer would leave. Allready knowing the material, I jumped into the seat full blown. Between playing shows with the likes of Superjoint Ritual, Fear Factory, OTEP, dope, Lacuna Coil, (hed) PE, Zug Izland, and many more. Fabrication was when shit got serious for me. I could actually see the rockstar dream comming back. Jamming with Fabrication seriously, and still with uHm, I was on the top of the world.Great times, however a bit of dismay was overcomming the bands. Loki moved away pt. 2. With Loki leaving for the greener pastures of Arizona, uHm was left looking for a new vocalist. Around the same time, Trevor was asked to leave Fabrication. Regardless to say, uHm picked up Trevor, and uHm was ready for an overhaul. Lloyd later left the band, and we picked up another long time friend in Dustin to play bass for us. Now with two very serious projects, I found myself torn between the band I loved, Fabrication, and the band I helped start in uHm. I played with both for about a year. Before Fabrication finally split up Jan. 1, 2005. We just stalled in the studio, families became the norm, and we never came back out. uHm however, had become enough to quench my thirst. From early 2005 - 2006 uHm became the standard of the River Cities music scene. Upon releasing our first disc "Dangerous Playings" we moved from C-Town, down to Davenport, and the greener pastures of the Quad Cities. With the line up scattered, work schedule conflicts, a change was needed in late 2006 for uHm to go to the next level. In December 2006 Stan and Dustin both left the band, and uHm was off to write a new chapter in evolution. Which I believe brings us to current. Now back with a new line up, new material, new look, new attitude. It's hard to even think about how this all came about. Let alone it took a Myspace About Me section to do it. There's lots of other important stuff that's happened to me since 4th grade. Just most of which I don't feel either pertinant to put on a myspace page, or it's fucking personal and if you're really one of my friends chances are you allready know.I guess here's some other pertinant information for you. I'm the father of an almost 4 year old beautiful little girl Miss Sydney. I'm the husband of now going on 6 years. I'm the Drum Department Manager for Guitar Center here in Cedar Rapids Iowa. A true dream job. The only thing better could be being on tour, of course with the family. I don't know if my rockstar dream will ever come true. However, I would like to personally thank you for taking the time to read all this literal nonsence. And in some weird way, knowing that at least a couple of you will, makes me rockstar enough.
