What are you waiting for?
We all have artists and bands we've always loved and been huge supporters of, right? Well, one of the reasons to become a fan of an artist is their music, so they must have made music that you at some point identified with, no? Well, I have lots of songs like that in my mental iPod. This first group come from the now 'classic rock' era, from roughly 1968-1990...

I've always felt kind of sorry for people who are used to living their life in control of everything--their emotions, their relationships, their social life--all key aspects to who they feel they are as people. My dad used to say this about people who had more than they necessarily needed: "Son, you'll find in this life that the more a person's got, the less they'll end up being worth."
This song, much like all the Dead's tunes (to me anyhow), makes you think about the largeness of things, and in seeing that, you tend to take stock of your own tiny cirner of the universe. With the right mind-frame, hopefully you'll see that your issue or problem or hurt--though they seem and are very BIG deals to you--is microscopic compared to the universe.
It also makes me think of people who know inside themselves that they are better than the life they're living. I count myself in that number, though for far different reasons than most (a sure topic for a new blog). I feel like there are many aspects of my life that would be in less disrepair tyhan they are presently had I only spoken up and laid things out from the start. 'If I knew the way...'; this lyric is really a statement that, though everyone at times feels lost in Life, we are in the end responsible for navigating our own ways.
