For our Military
A beautiful poem written by razin hell FOB CHRISTINA TRC https://fubar.com/14318016
I am sharing with his permission
" Unicorns and ducks"
Here's a story of a man
lets say his name is john
who had hopes and dreams
of being somebody when he was young
he grew up in a small town
and went to its school
was a b average student
and never acted like a fool
his own grandfather had served
and died behind enemy lines
his own father returned home
and was doing just fine
So he himself enlisted right before college
knowing that a tour
would fill him with knowledge
This alone made his parents proud
his dad walked around with his head held high
after watching the news only once
his little sister ran to him asking why?
He picked her up and hugged her
and said "for you and the ground beneath your feet"
took his thumb and lovingly wiped away
the tear running down her cheek
They woke up early the next morning
to have one last famile meal
all smiling to one another
the feelings we're so surreal
They sent him off from the airport
to go through basics and to train
already one day gone... with many more that remain
Little sister would color him pictures
of Unicorns and ducks
he in return would mail her photgraphs
of him standing in front of his big green trucks
This became habit
till the day he was deployed
then they became fewer
each new one bringing relief and joy
Little sister would stand by the mailbox
hoping for a letter in her hand
not knowing that the last one
would be delivered in a government van
It pulled up in front of the house, after twice circling the block
two men fully decorated
summoned mom and little sister with their knock
Upon opening the door
mom saw and let out a loud whine
the cry only growing louder
now with sisters combined
Hats now removed and last letter in hand
the first gave the envelope to sister
the second to mom said" he was a brave soldier and man
dad asks "what had happened,
did he suffer or was it fast
remembering how some had lost there own life
in his own wartime past
The first said " its an honor to report
that it was while saving one of his own
who at the time couldn't walk
and was left all alone
You see earlier he had learned
that this man had 3 kids and a wife
and was about to retire after serving most of his life
So he carried him all the way
back to his truck
thats when the man noticed stuck on the visor
a colored picture of a unicorn and duck
He then wrapped the wound
that was bleeding badley in his leg
stuffed an envelope into the mans pocket
and said "get this to my sister i beg!"
He then turned around
and reurned to the battle at a run
and helped hold off enemy fire
till the last l;ight,
from the setting sun
Little sister asks "did he survive?
the one that has the 3 kids and a wife?
Kneeling down to eye level
and a snap and crackle in his bones
the second says "The mans life that your brother saved
was my very own."
Smiling, then retrieving the letter
from where she had it tucked
inside there was a photogragh of her brother holding a
colored picture of a unicorn and duck.
