Apple Rose Tart Recpie

Ingredients: to make 6 roses

  • 1 puff pastry sheet (Can use pie crust also)
  • 2 red apples
  • 1 tablespoon of flour, to sprinkle the counter
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of Cinnamon Sugar (1 Tablespoon Cinnamon & 1 Tablespoon of Sugar mixed well)
  • powder sugar for decorating (optional)

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 370 degrees F.
  • Wash apples. Cut in half first (Top to Bottom), slice off very ends of each side, then core middle. Slice into thin slices.
  • Place applie slices in a microwave safe bowl, sprinkling sugar (sparingly) between each layer of apples. Add water so the slices are 'swimming' slightly.
  • Microwave the bowl of apple slices for 3-4 minutes or until they are bendable, but NOT breaking apart.

You can also do this step on the stovetop in a pan too, if you rather not use a microwave.

  • While apples are in the microwave (or simmering for a few minutes), roll out the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Square off the dough if you're using a pie crust. Cut the dough into 2 Inch strips. Sprinkle dough with cinnamon sugar.
  • Once the apples are done, layer them on one side of the dough, with the skins facing out. Fold over dough over the edges of the slices.
  • You can sprinkle more sugar on the edge here if you like it sweet, or just begin to roll up the dough/apples. Try to make a kind of cone space with the smallest part of the cone at the dough.
  • Once rolled up, place in a pre-sprayed or greased cupcake tin and bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for about 40-45 minutes, until fully cooked.
  • Let them cool! Then sprinkle with powered sugar and enjoy!

There are many variations to this recipe. Please see: http://cookingwithmanuela.blogspot.com/2015/03/apple-roses.html for good pictures on how to make this. I just do not like apricot jam on mine, and didn't find it necessary to use lemon juice.

I know this might be a little hard to envision doing, please post comments if you have questions! Enjoy!
