I don't know who reads these, but perhaps someone will wander in and glance at my words. We shall see...
I'm a man whose life has been about beating the odds. I was born with arguably the worst case of bilateral club foot in the US. I was ranked in the top 2% severity in the world. But I was blessed to have had brilliant surgeons from both the US and Egypt. The Egyptian surgeon called me his "American godson", and stayed here. I've had many surgeries- too many to recall accurately. All of my physicians through the years swore I'd be in a wheelchair permanently by age 30. I turn 43 this year- I'm thankful for every step I can take.
In High School, I caught a meeting of about 50 girls all swearing I'd never have a chance to reproduce. Some people thought that was a made-up event, until they went with me to my 10 year reunion and met one of the girls who took that vow. I was married, with a beautiful daughter. Some women came up to me apologizing for how they treated me. More odds that I beat! (Alas, the marriage didn't last. Roughly 20 years shot down...I'll explain if asked)
In 2009 I was diagnosed as Type II diabetic. I've been keeping a firm control over it. I am the master of my health- what I can control, anyway.
I am a survivor- of diabetes, cancer, domestic violence and multiple forms of abuse. These things don't just happen to women- I promise you. Men suffer it, too.
I am a single father of a beautiful young lady who is gearing up for a career in astrophysics. She is my shining star- multi-talented, brilliant, compassionate and wonderful. I couldn't be prouder of her. And like me, she's a survivor.
