So yesterday I get a call from my best friend. The house he and his wife are renting is being foreclosed on. Theyre also in financial trouble; they cant pay for one of their cars, or rent, and he doesnt work. They also have three kids, including a newborn.
His wife suggested that she take the kids and move in with her mother, and he move in with me and he can pay rent. I can already see it coming; shes about to shitcan him.
I own a small two bedroom townhouse. Its enough room for one person, but a squeeze for two. Ive been going through a divorce since last summer, and just got it back in January. The peace and quiet (first time in 11 years) has been nice, although it gets a little lonely. Some company would be good.
Hes got some problems. He has a learning disability and very severe Adult ADD. He cant hold jobs for very long. So hes dependent on someone to watch over him and keep him in the right direction, and he doesnt have any family that can do that. He was on meth for 10 years until he went to drug rehab and got cleaned up. Now that hes clean, he weights around 400 lbs, so he eats a lot. Basically, I cant support him financially if he isnt working.
I would have absolutely no free time or quiet time if he moves in. Hes also quite messy and doesnt really pick up after himself.
On the other hand, I actually wouldnt mind watching over him to help him get back on track. Hes been my best friend for about 32 years. Hes family. Plus there may be fun times ahead. Not to mention when his wife dumps him hes going to need someone to be there for him.
Not sure what to do. |
