Over the years, the Olympics have been a showcase for countries wanting to promote themselves. Maybe it's time to change that around! I took note of the anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti, and how much still needs to be done there. What popped to mind is why don't we showcase what can be done if we work together and rebuild a place that is needing everyone's assistance to get safe housing and improvements to their infrastructure? If world class events were to be showcased in places like Haiti, Indonesia, and New Orleans, with all the housing and facilities for people to attend built to the standards required to survive the disasters that occurred before, wouldn't that be worth seeing? Wouldn't that be worth supporting? Wouldn't it be good to see what happens when vanity is set aside and replaced by compassion? International oversight could reduce corruption, and all those ( countries, corperations, and individuals ) who contribute to the effort could take pride in creating a showcase for the world's best athletes, as well as reducing the deprivations of those who have suffered though a catastrophic event.
Just a simple thought,
a moment's inspiration.
A possibility.
Making the world a better place,
by helping those in need,
while supporting
the best in the world.
