Growing up I have been raised to be pretty close to nature. Mainly how to live off of it. We lived back in the woods of Jasper,Tx. This blog only goes into my father's side of survivalism. Peace through superior firepower, and always be prepared. Much earlier than most would even imagine. I was shooting my BBgun at age 4. * Attn parents. The BBgun is a "gateway gun", becareful. Along with that comesthe first rifle.* He taught me respect and care for firearms. Next was my .22lr at 6, then a lil 410g shotgun. That was about it on the freebies. Instead, he shared his for the teaching. A varied assortment of arms. I never reallly cared for the non-sporting hunts. A timer and feeder. Isnt sporting. There have been many day and night spent out in the Big Thicket or river bottoms of S.E.Texas deer and squirrel hunting. Now, when I was told to shoot some squirrels for dinner by my Mom. It carried a different tone. A few opossums, a skunk here and there did fall under my aim. Neither of which are very desirable for lunch.
Anyway, after the move to Austin. The inherant desire to run into the trees and relax within this beautiful Texas hill country was natural. My older brother and I would camp and create hidden fortifactions across our "turf". He was luckier in that . He was able to finish further than I in the Boy Scouts. We did accomplish our training with old Army field guides and surplus equiptment. I never had the desire to join with the govt military. He did, and tried. Ashma kept him out. Partying did me in. After Sept. 11, 2001. I was ready to apply my ageing skills. Two minor "herb" related arrest kept me out.
So, now after this crazy-assed summer weather in the gulf. Hurricane evactuees/refugees, and the whole I-10 fiascoe. Islamic terrorists claiming Ji'had on the Christian Empire of the west. Slow invasion from south of our border. This psudo-asianic bird flu or even yet an upcoming real pandemic. I am rearming! By the Gods, I am not going to be killed because they think I am a Hedonist X-tian. Get it right before you try to kill me and yourself, plus any one else in the blastzone. Nor will I be sitting on the side of the road or waiting for someone to pull my ass out of the fire. Have diseased looters try and take my goods and life because they didnt listen. Did you see "War of the Worlds"? Something to think about.
Be Prepared! Think ahead of what you are going to need when either Uncle Sam cant or will not reach down and hold you close like an infant. Grow-up and smell the reality. Pay somewhat attention the (overly biased) media. Be it Tv, paper, radio. They all say CYOA (cover your own ass) in a disaster. Have at least 3 days "basic" supplies to get you through; til (maybe) someone can come and save it by then. I am thinking a lil beyond that. My emergency survival kit is more than what every one needs. Only those who already have a plan in mind. That plan is to stay alive and to safely travel to one's desired goal. Mine, well thats our "family plan". Basically, Group up with existing family members outside and away from society for 3 months. To get there. Proper application of this gear is required. Along with the know-how, skills, and courage to succeed. To stay alive.
I will break this down into my "bags". Each one has its reason and use. I have tried to think of everything. It has taken a lil over a year to rebuild my kit. Once it is finished and secure. Life is a little bit easier. A peace of mind, and that peace is through superior firepower and preparedness.

*A special note on Suzail's bag. The main reason so many pets were left behind by their owners was because they were not prepared. Nor, was The National Guard able to supply support for both people and pets. If you really love your pets. Do your part first. If they see youare ready. Off you and your lil one will go. Not like I will need it.
Keep them in mind when you prepare your "self-reliance" kits.
Nothing will stand between a richeous man and his goal. My goal is to survive and carry on the fight.
