Amie Secrets's blog: "Amie Secrets"

When I get up, I have my coffee and I actually read the news.

There is always something about someone shooting at people.

Is it that there are more mentally ill people in the world? Is it that they are playing video games and have not learned to socialize? Are we as parents contributing to this?

Well, I do have my opinion on this, I think that it is a combination of all those things depending on the situation. I don't think kids realize that when you die, you don't come back. It's not a show or game. There is no do over or rewind button. Dead is dead. Your actions can destroy families and friends.

As a parent, you need to know what our kids are watching, reading, going and who their friends are. If your child has a problem, don't ignore it, help them.

Growing up in my home, no one had a tv or phone in their rooms. We had one tv and it was in the family room and you had to learn to share. You were not allowed to be on the phone for hours. Dinner was on the table at 6 and you couldn't say, "Can I eat in the living room". You ate at the table, you didn't want to eat, you still sat at the table. You asked if you can be excused from the table.

I didn't grow up angry and wanting to buy a gun and start to shoot at people. We were taught manners, how to behave in public. Don't even get me started on the kids who wear their jeans under their ass. Yes, that is exactly what I need in the morning as I pump my gas, you to walk by so I can have full view of your stained gross underwear..Thanks...now my day can get started.

Sorry, I'm getting of the topic a bit.

We had to go outside to play and we had to use our imagination. There was no play kitchen in our rooms. Toys busting out of our closet because as a parent we feel guilty that we have two people in a marriage who has to work just to make it today and we buy our kids everything.

The value of a dollar and work ethic was supplied to us at an early age.

As a community/county...we have to teach our kids to learn to share, have manners, that not everyone is going to like you but we have to be tolerant, kind and understanding. Big deal that you failed at something. Teach your child what went wrong and try again. Great people who achieve great things have made mistakes in the beginning. You don't need to own what your neighbor has, this is not a competition.  Teach that you don’t need to live with excess. Do you really need a tv in every room? Are you ok with putting your kid in front of the tv all day because your tired and can't deal?

Get over it...

That child did not ask to be brought into this world, we as parents did. Now it is our responsibility to teach them. As a community/county it is our right to show those children by our actions on how we treat others. A child’s mind is wonderful, if I decided not to hold a door open for the person behind me and a child saw that, what did I just teach them. I can tell you what I didn't teach them, common courtesy.

Again, this is only my opinion, everyone gets to have one and I respect that your don't have to agree with me.
