Ok here ya go for those interested in how to talk to someone overseas...
First we know about the IM's out there that have voice chat capabilitys. However we also know some people are not computer literat, or they are using VISTA which is a big pile of crap right now, and it makes it hard to use MICs which i have experianced.
So the options i have used and found that avoid PC's or at least one PC.
1. Skype i use it to call the UK at .021 a minute. Alot cheeper then any real phone or phone card. The sound quality is great and it only drops off if their cordless phone dies, or your internet has a hickup.
This is a option that works great if one person is not very computer literate and their mic is not working. If both work then you can call skype to skype for free.
2. Vonage - This is probably the best bet for Phone to Phone calls. Let the person who has a landline get it, unless you want one to. Here is how im doing it for free calls to the UK right now.
My friend has Vonage setup to call the US for free, She then had a virtual US Number added to her line. Now here is how we do it.
I operate on cell only, i can not put a overseas number in my phone as a Favorite 5 (T-Mobile) So i put the Vonage US Number she has in. She can call me and burn my minutes, or what we do is i ignore her call, and call her right back. This way i use no minutes, she pays no extra charge and we can talk as long as the phones stay charged.
So there ya go.. a couple solutions that might help some people out. The skype idea is very nice if you want to suprise someone overseas thats at work.
However take into account that Skype to Cell is very expensive UK its 25 cents a minute. So try your best to call to land lines.
