Society had me beat when I sat with it to
dine.
But somewhere amongst the wine
A voice over my shoulder called
"Carpe diem!"
At first it was ignored but then curiosity won out
And now I live my life and suck the marrow out.
Society is appalled by me and tried to make me sit
And for awhile they thought they had
Then again I heard it a whisper over my shoulder,
no louder than the breeze.
"Carpe, carpe diem."
So once again I stood and from here there's such a better view.
I spoke aloud for all the world to hear
"O captain my captain you are here."
My hand I placed over my heart and smiled at he who set my free.
"O captain my captain now I think for me."
