Woke up this morning and my water heater is starting to leak from the top connectors.

I looked up water heaters online & they are around $750 for a 50 gallon tank, not sure what my current one is.
But I found the tankless at Home Depot for around $300.
I don't know much about either. Is tankless better? is installation easy or more complicated?
I really need some advice or questions to ask the plumber.
