Recently I was asked the above question; What Defines A Relationship? While I find this question easy to answer, apparently many do not. So here is my answer, in my honest opinion, for whatever that's worth these days....
Everyone has their own idea and ideal of what defines a relationship. To me a Romantic Relationship requires more than just mutual attraction or merely liking someone.
To willingly enter into a Romantic Relationship means to me that there is a mutual desire to love and be loved, and to build mental and emotional intimacy and trust between you and someone you think is special. It must begin with at least a little shared history.
Friends with benefits is a relationship too. Defined as someone you are comfortable being physically intimate with for just that purpose and that purpose only.
True Intimacy is in the heart and mind, not just a physical connection. True intimacy requires a certain level of trust and love that can take years to achieve and is always evolving.
Trust and real love is necessary for a relationship of any permanency, such as living together, marriage or life partnership.
As always, I'm interested to know what you would add or subtract to this.....
