My Dad died in 1989. This is important for many reasons, but for this post, it's important because the day he died, my mother was in having her left breast removed due to cancer. If anyone would have had any idea that he was going to die that day, I'm sure she would have put off what she was having done. She was like that, always putting off what was important to her for the sake of anyone that happened to need her for anything. I know this to be true, because there were five of us kids that always needed something, and she always managed to find the time and the energy to take care of everything thrown at her. This was an amazing feat, not just because five kids are a handful, but because she also worked full-time in an General Motors iron pouring foundry. She was thrown into that situation in 1962, right after my father had his first heart-attack. He wasn't expected to live over 6 months, so she did what she had to do, and became one of the very first women hired at that place.

I have got a full time 'real' job after working temp labor for far too long. Today, before 9:00 am, the Project Manager mouthed off to our CO, who does not have any patience. Why can't civilian contractor employees understand that when a CO directs you to do something, you either better do it or keep your mouth shut? Ok, so I'm about to take a trip. I've flown many times before, but I know that when it comes time to board the plane, people are going to be rushing to the gate to board. It seems like everyone I know takes their vacations in the summer. Family and friends plan trips. People want me to go have a good time with them. I would love to go somewhere during the summer. So I found out last week that my boss has sold her business, the new owners take over Aug 27th. It really sucks cause I just got comfortable there, and I really like my boss. Greetings All. Well, I promised an update and here goes. I am Still working and living during the Week down at Fort Myers, Florida. We are doing the Archaeological Survey for an 8000 acre Citrus Grove (Oranges, Grapefruit, lemons, etc). We are currently nearing the project's end and up to this week have not found a damn thing other than an old Hand adzed (a wood working tool - think carved) part to a wagon hitch (prob 1920s-30s). Now at least, we have something of interest,,, a town. Yep,,, a whole Damn Town. We know that it was first settled in the early 1900 and was abandoned sometime between 1944 and 1953. It is all plowed up Grove now. We spotted it on an old aerial photo. I did some research and found out that it was a small community called Corkscrew Settlement. It contained about 20 odd families at its height and although it never had a store or a church, it did have a school between 1923-1946. Working with inmates can be hard on you. A lot of the inmates can't read or write. Most of the inmates will try to con you, so you have to be on your toes all of the time. This doesn't mean you have to be distant and not talk to them. Recently I had the third ex-inmate come up to me and thank me for listening and talking to them. They said they never want to go back to jail. They said it is rough working but better then being on the inside. I guess I do preach to them on the inside. I try to reach down into them and pull that part of them that is righteous out. I do listen to their personal problems and try to help. The day before yesterday, it was the inmate that said he would soon be getting out. His girlfriend is leaving him for her ex-friend. The inmate wanted something to tell her to make her stay with him. I always dreamed of being in the music industry and now here I am! It is only the first step but being a customer service rep for musician's friend allows me to meet different musicians from all over the US and Canada. I have some awesome conversations which have pushed me forward towards my goal of being a promoter and learning guitar. I am also learning more every day about different music gear which I never before knew much about! I love my job even if it is only part-time. To counteract the PT status, I have an interview set up to become a substitute teacher for the K-6 grades which will be a blast! Well I had my eval today.. as i wrote in one of my blogs.. and I also had a staff mtg tonite. was 1 1/2 hrs long. These mtgs really bore me because they mainly pertain to nursing. Havent updated this one in a long time. Lets see, i got out of the Air Force and into the Army. The job I originally came in to do hasnt worked out, so I will be going to Virginia next week to train for my new job. I will be there til february. Other then that 7 years til I can retire. For those who don't know part of my job is giving skills test for drivers licenses. A lot of the people I see for auto licenses are international people as I live in a University town. In my state one can drive on an international license for a year legally without obtaining a state license. Here is the scary part an international person driving on a international license legally, can take a driving test, fail horribly, and drive away alone legally. Had a test this morning with a woman who couldn't speak any english. She pulled out in front of several vehicles causing them to stop and drove over an overpass on the wrong side of the road. Needless to say she failed but she is still driving. I just wish an international license would be voided when one attempts the state driving test that way if they fail they are of the road as they probably should be...Just a rant.

alot has been on my mind regarding my job..this past month. We have had a slow period..not enough patients..etc.Some due to Doctors going on vacation..etc.. Anyways, this is first time in 19yrs I have seen it this bad up there. We have been combining with the medical floor. I was beginning to wonder if we were even gonna have jobs. Anyways, got called by my boss today. She wanted to let me know what was going on. I guess they plan on having us be a small unit..with just 10 beds. We will be open monday through friday and what few patients we have left on friday we will move to medical floor. She was asking me if I was willing to work 12hr days. I will only have to work 2 days a week instead of 3. I will not have to workweekends...and lesser holidays. I said it sounded wonderful. Although I am sure my paycheck will notice the difference. Well I have been to the dentist. She took some X-rays and she could not take my wisdom tooth out as I have got 3 roots holding it in. She said I am going to be referred to the hospital and I will be asleep when it is taken out. She did numb me really good just in case she could take it out but nope :( My husband has got to go to hospital this morning to the Cardio- Respiratory Department. He has got to go on one of them running machines to to test his heart. If he fails he will loose his driving licence and he is not happy about that. He loves to drive and loves to get out in the car with me and the kids. My husband went to see doctor today as he was still having problems since having a mild heart attack in August. The symptoms he has been having may be a tumor and is being sent to a neurologist and going to have an cardio eco gram done for his heart. Just got to sit and wait now.
